DESCRIPTION: EPW - Gudin, Paris (listed ca 1770, possibly Jacques Jérôme, active 1750 until his death in 1789), gold and enamel verge fusee, quarter repeating on bell, 41mm, 18K gold OF original consular case with enameled scene on back of musician entertaining ladies, the front bezel set with rose-cut diamonds, KWKS, WED, silver hands with rose-cuts, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, s# 8828. Gross weight of assembled watch 46.4 dwt (72.2 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, good balance motion, good escapement function, plates show near mint gilding, hardly any oxide on steel components; good repeat function, the hour hammer to close to the bell and the quarter not quite touching; dial chipped around winding hole and at screw-site, hl from 7 to 8; hands fine, tips and some diamonds missing; original case shows little wear, no MFS to freshly epoxy-coated enamel, which possibly conceals repair or repainting, no dents or dings; button latch good; bow replaced in nickel with plating worn away, pendant original; good domed bull's-eye glass crystal.
